Remove Duplicate Lines Online
Quickly paste text from a file into the form below to remove all duplicate lines from your text.
This tool will compare all the lines in your text and then find and remove all of the identical lines. You can then paste the newly cleaned unique text lines back into a file for saving.
I've also added an option for you to alphabetize the lines after all the duplicate lines have been removed. You can also automatically sort the remaining lines in reverse order if you need to. You should also check out my line break remover.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are duplicate lines removed?
This tool analyzes your text and removes any lines that appear more than once, leaving you with a clean list where every line is unique. Paste your text into the input box, choose your preferred sorting option, and the processed result will appear in the output box immediately.
What text sorting options are available?
The tool offers four options for controlling the order of your results. The default setting leaves your content in its original order with duplicates simply removed. Alphabetical sort arranges the remaining lines from A to Z or 0 to 9. ASCII sort orders lines based on character codes, which can be useful when working with technical or mixed-character content. Reverse sorting arranges results in descending order, from Z to A or 9 to 0.
When would I use ASCII sort instead of alphabetical sort?
Alphabetical sort treats uppercase and lowercase letters as equivalent, whereas ASCII sort orders characters strictly by their ASCII code values. This means uppercase letters will be grouped separately from lowercase letters in the output. ASCII sort is particularly useful for developers or anyone working with technical data where character case is significant.
Will the tool preserve the formatting of the remaining lines?
Yes. The tool only removes duplicate lines and optionally reorders the results according to your chosen sort option. The content and formatting of each retained line is left exactly as it appears in the original text.
Where would I need to remove duplicates?
This tool is valuable in a wide range of differnt contexts. Developers and data professionals will find it useful for cleaning up lists, log files, or datasets that contain repeated entries. Writers and editors can use it to identify and remove repeated lines in drafts or compiled documents. Anyone managing mailing lists, keyword lists, or inventories can quickly strip out duplicates to produce a clean, unique set of entries. It is also a practical tool for students or researchers consolidating information gathered from multiple sources.
Can I adjust my text and run the tool again?
Yes. Your original text remains in the input box after processing, so you can make changes and rerun the tool as many times as needed without having to paste your content in again.
Does my text stay private?
Sire does. This online tool works right in your browser. No part of your text is ever sent to our servers.
Will it work with any amount of text?
Not quite. My guesstimate is that any text file over 5mb size may not work, depending on your browser and the power of your device. In other words, I wouldn’t try processing gigantic text files with this tool.
Is the tool really free to use?
Yes, this tool is completely free and requires no account or registration to use.
