Resources
Here are some resources and tools on other websites that I find helpful in my online publishing life.
General Web Tools on Other Sites
CSS Gradient Generator: Great tool for generating cross-browser code for CSS gradients.
Online Link Checker: If you want to quickly check a page for broken links then this is a good tool to use.
Website Testing Tools
Website Speed Test: See how fast your website loads in comparison to other sites. Having a fast loading site helps your site to grow. Nobody likes a slow loading website so optimize for speed where possible. You should also check out Google PageSpeed Insights.
HTML Validation: if you're custom coding a page then be sure run it through the validator to make sure the code is correct.
Sitemap.xml Link Checker: I discovered this one recently - especially handy if you've made any Google sitemaps manually.
Web Hosting
If you don't know what kind of web hosting you need then please check out The Three Kinds of Web Hosting before taking any action.
DreamHost or Bluehost are both good entry level hosting services in the less than ten bucks range. They both run occasional deals so check them both out to see who's got the better price at the time.
Dathorn: Currently this site gets too much traffic so I upgraded to Dathorn - a more intermediate solution in the 20ish dollar a month range. They've been great for the site.
Servint: I've used their VPS hosting solutions for a website that got millions of pages in traffic. They're more expensive but super solid and reliable.
Domain Names
If you're going to buy more than one or two domain names then it's probably a good idea to have them all in a single place otherwise, if possible, just buy the name where you host the website.
NameCheap: Currently I'm registering all my domain names with NameCheap.com right now. I used to use GoDaddy but I've soured on them a bit lately.
Whois.Net: If I need to check on the availability of a domain name then this is the place I start.
Website Analytics and Sitemaps
Google Analytics: it's free to use and it allows you to see how many people go to your website, how many page views you get and other essential data for running a website.
Google Webmaster: this also has some useful data on your website like the different searches people use to find your site through Google. It's also free to use.
Bing Webmaster: not as useful as the Google version but it does allow you to submit a sitemap to the Bing search engine and consequently other search engines like Yahoo.

And here are some odds and ends on this website that might come in handy on rare occasions.
Disclosure: Hey, some of the links on this site are affiliate links. Which means that if you buy something, I get a small commission and this doesn't cost you anything extra.
I only recommend products or services that I have experience with and have found them to be helpful as a web publisher - not because I occasionally get beer money if somebody buys something... although I do love my beer money, that's not why I started this website.
